Get energy company off my back

A bill splitter company (beginning with G and rhymes with tide!) refuses to take my name off the joint energy account, and despite moving out in lieu of a replacement nearly 6 months ago they are still charging me.

The landlord didn't ensure that a new agreement was signed when I moved out (with the agreement of tenants and landlord). The replacement then left without warning after paying rent for a month.

I have sent them all correspondence relating to me not living there and showing that my replacement is now resident but they won't accept it or leave me alone. I can't force them to produce a new agreement as the landlord believes I'm the tenant all over again...!

The messages are weekly and adding late fees, threatening debt collectors etc.

Don't know what to do. I don't live there. I don't use the utilities. I didn't leave in secret. If the landlord didn't want to arrange sufficient checks on the tenant who left after a month that shouldn't be my problem. They're meant to be the professional here. I did what I believe was correct.

Did you follow the company's formal complaints procedure? The procedure will be on their website.

If not, you need to make a formal complaint and give them a chance to respond formally. You need to state what is wrong and what you want them to do about it.

If the company's formal complaints procedure doesn't work, the next step is to complain to the Energy Ombudsman www.ombudsman-services.org/sectors/energy. They have a helpline 0330 440 1624. When I have phoned them in the past they were very helpful.
