Tax credits single claim

XDP and I broke up almost 3 years ago. He is the father of my children. We were together for 19ish years and lived at the same address. When DP left he moved in to a rented flat where he stayed for about a year if I remember rightly and then moved in with his new partner where he is still living to date.
About 6 weeks ago I received a letter from tax credits telling me that my XDP was living here at my address. I wrote back to them immediately explaining to them in detail this was not the case. Provided them with addresses where he has resided since the split and council records such as election role etc would back this up. I even included XDP phone number and documents XDP had kindly provided stating his address. Yesterday when I got in from work I got a letter from them saying that they stand by their decision and that based on their records XDP was living here at my address.

I have tried to phone the HMRC complaints line this morning but they are not dealing with tax credits apparently and the tax credits investigating team are not working over the weekend. I don’t understand how they can simply ignore the information I have provided them. We have done everything above board. XDP has not lived at the address during the period I claimed for. Please help! Thank you

Email your MP. Mine got involved when my exh continued to claim for a dc that no longer lived with him. Just Google MP in your area.

Thanks. Not thought about emailing my MP will give that a go.
I’m obviously going to appeal the decision through whatever process I have to follow but i’m totally freaking out by this. If the payments stop I won’t be able to cover my outgoings... even if they will “put things right” later down the line that is not going to help me in the the immediate future.
Thanks for your help. Really appreciate your advice.

They usually go by financial records. Could XDP have an active bank account still registered to your address? Has he updated his GP / drivers licence etc

I think he has update his information. Thing is HMRC have his details from his income tax? Even if the the odd document is still showing his address as mine all official documents don’t.
