Car bump - advice please

I was hit from behind at a roundabout yesterday. I was stationary. I spoke to the other driver, who does not want to go through insurance, but exchanged details anyway. I notified police and my insurer.

Within 20 mins I had mild pain in my back. After 6 hours it was a bit worse, and my shoulder/ neck started to get stiff and sore. Much worse today but manageable pain - paracetamol is fine.

Car is possibly a write off, but it's a really good car. It's only worth about 1500, and the damage is likely to be 2000. I will never get a car as good for that.

Because of the high cost, I can't imagine the other driver will be able to keep it off insurance.

If insurance write it off and give the value if the car, can I use that money towards repair?
Also, if it turns out I can't work on Monday (very physical job involving lots of lifting) can I claim lost wages without going through a personal injury claim?

Yes - did that.

Contacting your insurers ( correct thing to do) will kick thing off. He didn't want to do it because it will cost him. Tough.

Speak to the insurers about injury.

Yes you can take the money and use it to repair the car. However, you will have to buy the car back from the insurer. If you want to go down this route you should tell the insurance company as early as possible.

As for the injury, I don't see why you wouldn't want a personal injury claim. That is how you get compensated for your injury. The other driver's insurance will pay so it shouldn't affect your insurance premium.

Go to your gp on Monday, or a walk in tomorrow if it's bad. You may need this as evidence of injury.
Do you have legal cover with your insurance?
I claimed a few years ago and private physio was sorted and claimed from other party.
You will need to keep records of all time off sick etc.
Give your insurers a ting and ask for some advice

Yes but only if they are willing to sell you the car.

Possibly foolishly, I feel bad for the young person driving the other car. It was his fault, but he is very young. I guess this is why insurance is so high for that age group!

Not your problem.

Definitely go through insurance otherwise you may find that you don't get what you are entitled to.

It depends on what the salvage category is as to whether you are legally allowed to repair the vehicle.

TBH if your car is going to cost £1500 then I can't see that paying you that is going to be cheaper than the increased insurance premium, even for a young driver.

Did you get the other driver's insurance details because it could be that the other driver doesn't have insurance.

Doctor correctly said the pain would get worse. It did. I'm off work. And as a single parent, kind of struggling with daily life. So that's all fun!

Assessor coming to see the car one day this week. Possibly. If it's not too inconvenient, as it is Xmas. Which I knew, but nice of them to remind me 😂

Just a bit of a nightmare all round, really

I wouldn't write off the idea of claiming for your injury because you feel bad for the other driver. From what you've said it sounds like it will go through their insurance anyway for the vehicle repairs so their premiums will be going up anyway. Insurance is there to cover injuries and you may find you are symptomatic for many months Sadlook after yourself

I had same accident. I did go through insurance and lucky l did really. My car wasn't too badly damaged but once the bumper was removed there was a lot more hidden damage. I did go to the GP as l had pins and needles in my arm and l also couldn't work the following week as too sore.

My car insurance claimed compensation for my injuries. It wasn't a massive amount compared to what some can get (£1000), but it paid for a few massages.

Claim for your injury sod the other person think of you, you are going to be in pain and that money can help.

Talk to you insurance about the injury they can get referral to physio. That can help dramatically. Personally I preferred osteotherapy so insurance paid for that.

Think about paying someone to come in and clean/iron for a few weeks if you are having trouble bending or pain when doing it.

You might have to attend a private consultants appointment this was quick easy and nothing to worry about.

Yes you can usually do what you want to do on the car but it depends on the category of write off. Talk to you insurance company

Oh and..,

You won't know the category of write off until the assessor has been. been a while since my insurance days (might have all changed) but from memory you won't be able to buy it back if it's a cat A,
