Hi there;
More of an interest question here, if a child is Home Educated and 14 yrs old, how do the Working restrictions for children apply, particularly with regards to the hours they can work. The Gov website says children cannot be employed "during school hours" but if that child is HE then how would you think that applies.

The relevant legislation (the Children and Young Persons Act 1933) does not deal with the position of home educated children.

My friend's 14yo HE son just kept within the weekly hours limit for his age group (worked in a news agent), and before 7pm, I think. He did work in school hours, like 2.5 hours several weekday mornings.

So does that mean Home educated children could work all day and every day prh? Looks like potential abuse of children to me.

not at all, bubbles, there are same limits on total hours per week that still apply.

For school-ed kids there are also limits like only 3-7pm. It's the restriction to out-of-school hours that may be lifted.

Local council should be able to advise for sure.
