Please can anyone advise where/ how I can get advice about signing a royalty agreement with a music company in a European country but having the royalties paid in the uk?
We cant afford to pay much as the artist is a student and this is her first successful project.
TIA.

If you want specialist advice you need a lawyer who specialises in intellectual property.

Thank you.
It is all a bit complicated and I know nothing about this industry.
I have requested documents in English as a first step and contacted everyone I know in the business - which isnt many.
We only have a week to sort it out.
And not much cash.

Don't sign anything. Don't receive/accept any payment until you have spoken with Intellectual Property specialist lawyer.

Unfortunately there is a language/legal/cultural barrier.
The person concerned is a young student, just starting out and with no money to pay lawyers.
The music label is a huge international company. They will, of course, have their own interests and profits at the forefront of their minds.
I have advised that she gets her contract in English and clubs together with the musician and the singer. (They are all relatively young and inexperienced) but I wouldn't have a clue where they would find a bi-lingual specialist lawyer at short notice..

I really do appreciate the advice. I just have no idea of the practicalities. I am not even in the same country and I am not bi-lingual.

DH used to be a royalties officer in a large music company. I'll ask him to post some advice later today.
