Ran a red light!

After 30 plus years of driving I somehow didn't spot a red traffic light and drove through it. Early morning so no other traffic about and nothing happened, no flash of a camera, no accidents etc but I am worried that the black box on the top of the traffic light may be a camera and wondered if anyone knows if it's a camera or just a sensor?
I had just dropped hubby off for train, and was thinking about yesterday's tube station explosion in London, (which is where hubby is off to today) so was a bit distracted, though absolutely no excuse for missing the light, but I am worried I might get a fine and points on licence. Can anyone put my mind at rest? Thanks.

Here in Scotland the red light cameras are stand alone units fitted up high poles and are yellow/grey in colour, they're not physically attached to the traffic light, I'm not sure if they flash. The junction will have road marking (lines the same as speed cameras.)

The little black boxes are just sensors. Relax and just try and be more alert next time, everyone is human and makes mistakes sometimes.

Thanks gals! You have helped to reassure me somewhat. But if I do happen to get the "nasty brown envelope" then I will just have to suck it up as they say!
I reckon one misdemeanour in over 30 years of driving is pretty good going but a lesson learned too. It's easy to allow life to distract us, and it's easy to get over confident in our driving skills.
I count my blessings, and the only casualty was my pride and confidence which have taken a big dent.

Oh dear, I've no advice but it might make you feel better to hear that I did something very similar yesterday. 😭😓😪😢😥

I've been driving for. 35 years and have a spotless record and really try and drive carefully however I was really stupid yesterday and took a left turn that was only for buses and taxis. It was clearly marked but I absentminded followed the two cars in front of me. They were Uber taxis so they don't have any sign of being a taxi on the rear of their vehicles so I just assumed they were normal cars. No excuse though. I realised what I was doing as I was doing it but it was too late. 😟😔😞
I'm annoyed with myself. Luckily it looks like it's only £30 and it's not a traffic offense so no points. So no need for me to be so annoyed really.

I think you have a good chance of getting away with it. I doubt I will as I've since I looked up the junction and it's a very common place to get ticketed.

Been there but I didn't even notice I ran it until the letter arrived. Option of fine and points or fine and course. Did the course and actually enjoyed it, my driving has definitely improved as a result. Terry not to worry too much.

If you've nothing through the post in 14 days you're in the clear.

bimbobaggins · 17/09/2017 17:28

I am the same, went through a red light .
It was 100 pound fine and 3 points. I was upset about the points on my license. Definitely didn't get offered a course which I would have taken.
