Name change/deed poll/divorce

I'm currently trying to divorce my ex husband but it's taking forever.

I need to renew my passport. It ran out shortly after my honeymoon and as we never went abroad. It's still in my maiden name. I want to change my name before I renew it as I don't want to renew it in my current legal name because I can I longer prove that I married (as I have submitted my marriage certificate the to the courts when I filed for divorce.

I have emailed my solicitor but so far I've had no response and I wanted advice. Does this cause problems?

Thanks in advance.

OK - the woman on the end of the deedpoll helpline which I found on the deedpoll website told me.

Of course she did, she wants to make money.

Just renew your passport in your maiden name - done.

Try this government website that tells you how to legally change your name.

Birth certificate - maiden name
Marriage certificate - maiden name or double barrelled

Only a complete change requires a CoN deed, though companies that can make money off you may not tell you that.

Oops, missed married name off marriage cert. hopefully that is obvious Grin

As pp say, you will be able to renew the passport in your maiden name. If you don't want to take the word of a bunch of strangers on the internet, phone the Passport Office advice line 0300 222 0000 www.gov.uk/passport-advice-line to get the correct information direct from the source.

Fuck me OP you're arsey towards people that are trying to help you!

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 01/09/2017 13:19

If you want to use mrs maiden name, submit birth certificate and marriage cert.

I don't think you need any documentation to renew your passport, just a new photo - just go for it!

dementedpixie · 01/09/2017 14:10

All you need for a passport renewal is the old passport and new passport photos. You don't need anything else as it was all submitted in the original application

OutToGetYou · 01/09/2017 14:10

And, no, there are no implications if you just start calling yourself your maiden name, or any name you choose.

The DBS will still be valid.

People do place a bit too much emphasis on what their name means legally, when really, it means nothing. And as for men not having to go through,w ell, neither do women, we have the choice to change or not change our names on marriage. It's not compulsory.

I gather banks are the biggest problem but a few sensible letters usually sorts them out.

Is it a British passport though OP?

rusholmemuffins · 01/09/2017 17:12

Rainybo

Thanks for that. Sorry if I sounded arsey - I felt that I was being clear about what I was asking but I felt I was being asked the same questions over and over. So evidently not as clear as I thought. Like I said, not done this before so was asking for advice and cheers for yours.
