Probate/will question

I am waiting for an inheritance from my grandmother. I've looked at the will and probate gov website. Once it's on there,does that mean probate is granted? Also, how is the city of probate decided? I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks. On the gov website, there is a registry but to my knowledge nowhere near where my grandmother lived or where she was born.

The city probate is granted is usually the one closest to the executor or solicitors acting for the executor. If a probate registry is having difficulties then they may direct that applications are sent elsewhere, for example Bristol Probate Registry was flooded recently so if you would usually send the application there then it would now be dealt with in Cardiff for the time being.

The city probate was issued will not make one iota of difference to the administration of the estate.

Ah right, thank you. It is the other side of the country but maybe the head office is there for the solicitor.

My mum lived in Yorkshire, I am Cheshire and Db in London.

We were signing for probate together as joint executors, for DB to travel to Yorks and stay at mums would have been a faff (not to mention messing house up when just on market!!). No way could he come here, we are virtually NC and rest of my family hate him!!!

I can get a direct train to Euston and back in same day. So we elected for Probate at the main London office, a short walk for me from Euston. As pp said, makes no difference to actual estate administration.
