Damage to our car

Would be grateful for any advice.

Woke up this morning to find a major scrape across our bumper. The car who obviously did it parallel parking was still there. We waited around but the driver didn't show up.

We took lots of photos of the damage on both cars and the positions. We spoke with our insurer and reported to the police via 101. We then left a note asking the driver to call us.

Several hours later, he called. He denies he did it and even says we must have damaged his car (this is impossible from the way the cars were parked - facing each other. If we'd done it, the marks would be on the opposite sides). He was quite rude and aggressive.

What now? We've reported to the police but I doubt they'll do anything. I know this sort of thing is hard to prove without camera footage or similar (no CCTV).

DH is upset that he told the insurance company as it will be recorded that we were involved in an incident which could drive up our premiums. Insurance company happy to pursue, but we risk losing our no claims bonus. We also have a £250 excess.

Really angry about the whole thing but seems whatever we do, we'll end up worse off.

Any ideas? Thanks

Leave it to the insurance. It's what they're there for.

there's no other sensible option. That's probably why no one's answered.

I'm afraid all you can do is leave it with your insurers. Give them the evidence including copies of the photos and let them sort it out. You won't necessarily end up worse off. If the insurance company is happy to pursue the other driver you may not end up any worse off at all.
