I'm having issues with a neighbours business, their clientele keep urinating in my alleyway.
Can I bill the business for the clean up?

On a more serious note
-do you own the alleyway?

  • what sort of business is it?
sadmommyhere · 26/06/2017 02:49

It's a pub alleyway is not for their use, but 4 properties have access to it. It can't be gated as it's main access point for two flats. 3 of us have witnessed the urinating over 5 incidents.

Surely businesses have a responsibility here. Contact council. Very grim

eternalopt · 26/06/2017 07:54

So your neighbour runs the pub? Have you spoken to them about it? What do you think the clean up costs will be? Are we talking more than a 50p bottle of bleach splashed about?

I wouldn't incur clean up costs and then expect them to reimburse without trying talking to them first. Have you also tried talking to the council about it, specifically the licensing department

titchy · 26/06/2017 07:56

Why can't you put a gate there?

sadmommyhere · 26/06/2017 16:07

Gate would reduce the width of entry and two flat wouldn't get furniture through.
No, a deep clean from a specialist service is what we are hoping for.
Contacted council they've said to phone the police.

Pub owner is very hostile and threatened me

Well, you could bill them. They wouldn't pay. You'd then need to sue them for the money and prove some sort of obligation on them to be responsible for the cleaning. Suspect they'd blame their patrons and say there's nothing they can do to control what they do once they leave the pub.

Trethew · 27/06/2017 01:04

Why don't you instal an extremely bright motion activated camera?

BeepBeepMOVE · 27/06/2017 01:10

Deep clean for some piss in an alleyway? Just chuck some bleach and hot water down.

Diagram needed to fully understand!

sadmommyhere · 27/06/2017 01:24

No just a personality adjustment for you beep.

Hi OP,
They can be arrested for being Drunk and Disorderly in a public place and even though it is classed as a minor offence it is still a criminal offence which means if convicted they might only get a £80 fine but will in fact have a criminal record.
As for the Pub Landlord/ owner threatening you then he could lose his licence.
I would advise you you to report the pub landlord to the police immediately as most landlords value their licence and therefore do not threaten their customers.

Thank you very much Avamiah, that's very helpful!

Why? The police aren't going to wait in the alley for people to piss there.

They might speak to him about the threats but that depends on what's been said.

Thesingingtoad · 27/06/2017 15:51

Play the long game - find out when the licence is up for renewal and complain (to who ever is dealing with the renewal) about the anti-social behaviour of the clientele - better still get all the neighbours who are affected by the alley piss to join in the complaint.
