Prosecuting for emotional abuse

A friend of mine was in a terrible marriage but is now divorced. She has decided she wants to try and prosecute her ex husband for emotional abuse. I stayed with them for a few months and she has asked me to write a statement supporting her. However, this was in early 2013 and I have read online that prosecution for emotional abuse must be done within 2 years of it occurring. Please can someone advise me if this is correct?
