Son has been off for about three weeks, work are insisting he hand delivers his certificates?

Is this right or normal?

If he has been signed off as unfit to work by a doctor then no, he shouldn't have to hand deliver the notes unless there is specific wording in his contract that if a person is not hospitalised/bedridden that they have to do this - seems odd & unusual though - has his employer said why they need it delivered in this way?

No explanation, just an insistence that they needed hand delivering!

Should him email and ask directly why?

Hand delivering by him or anyone.

We alwys ask at work for them to be delivered by hand (due to getting lost in the post) or recordes delivery.

Also depending on why the person is off and how long they will be off we would also want to arrange a welfare visit or have a chat with them about whats going on, what support we can give etc.

But we would also make that clear rather than getting them in under false pretences.
