Tenancy agreement

A relative has just renewed the tenancy on her house and it stated rent due each month was the same as they previously paid. Letting agent have now contacted tenant and said the rent paid this month is not right amount, it should have been increased at renewal.
No letter was sent advising of increase and my relative has signed tenancy.
Can the letting agents still increase the rent despite it being their cock up?
Thank you.

No the agency cant change the rent as far as im aware as the tenancy has been signed for a specific amount of lease time eg 6 or 12 month contract.
I think the letting agency would have to give notice to do a rent increase and nor sure if that is allowed mid tenancy or only when contract is renewed...

There is an amazing group on facebook called "Tenancy Matters Uk".. add them they will be able to tell you the legalities of it all and help x

Its up to them to compensate the landlord for their cock up. Your relative should pay what is written in the tenancy.
