Where do I find a good divorce solicitor?

Also posted on relationships, but not had much of a response. Long story short, I'm going through the separation process with husband (emotional abuse, controlling behaviour etc - has been physical in the past). He's told me he wants full custody of the kids (DD4 and DD2). Although I think it's unlikely he'll get it and he's just trying to scare me I'm going to be getting legal advice - where do I start and how do I know if they are any good?

I saw a legal aid solicitor through WA for a chat earlier this week, I don't qualify for legal aid unfortunately so I'll have to pay for it somehow. Anyway, she seems really nice, however how do I know if she's any good?!

Where you go to find a 'good' solicitor all depends on how much you have to pay for one sadly. And those costs could be bourne by the joint assets.

If you have limited funds, you need to find a solicitor who you will use for the legal arguments but when it comes to the grunt work you can take that on yourself.

Go to wikivorce. There is great information there and even a free helpline to call to get you started in the right direction

I am a family lawyer. The only thing with legal aid lawyers is that they tend to have heavier case loads so you may find it difficult to get hold of her. If you are paying privately I would look around and find a Resolution Solicitor as they adhere to a code of conduct.

I'm not sure if they offer resoloution as I'm not sure what that is Blush but I found Meaby www.meaby.co.uk/ very helpful when I contacted them re contentious probate .

I was slightly put off by fact they have an office in Camberwell Green but shouldn't have been . Very professional .One of very very few who offered a free intial consultation .Offices in central London if easier to get to .

Meabys have no Family department.

If you put your postcode into this

www.resolution.org.uk/memberSearch.asp?page_id=45

You'll find a Resolution accredited specialist in your area.

Meabys do now have a family law department - Joanna Toloczko is the lady to speak to.
