I'm the main prosecution witness in a crown court case in a few of months. Special measures application in process.

I'm unsure which special measures would be best. I'm told I would probably be granted either screen or live link due to the nature of the crime and I can chose which I'd prefer.

Having never been in a court hearing before, any advice on which one is best? My gut feeling is telling me I'll come across to the jury much better if I'm actually in court rather than over live link?

I'm a reporter and I cover lots of court cases. I'd always advise being physically in court, behind a screen, if you feel you can manage it. The jury get a better sense of who's telling the truth if they can see you properly and weigh up your reactions to the questions. Eyes on the judge. Don't look towards where the defendant is sitting if you can help it.

If you can bear it, go for the screen. I've never had a witness over a video link but I have interviewed over one and it is hard work. There is always a delay and it's just not the same as being in the room. Good luck. X

I just have to give this my best shot or I know I'll wonder "what if" otherwise, so screen it is.
