Appealing a court order

My ex applied to the court to appeal the decision made at our last court hearing around contact arrangements. This appeal was dismissed by the courts as the applications were 'wholly without merit'.

Should I be notified about the appeal and be sent all of the paperwork that was filed. ie. what my ex felt was the grounds for the appeal and then why the judge dismissed the appeal?

This sounds like it was an application for permission to appeal rather than an actual appeal. Had it been an appeal, you would have been asked to attend the appeal hearing and make representations. With permission to appeal, the person who wants to appeal the order has to first of all convince the court that they should be allowed to appeal. The court can deal with this at an oral hearing (you, as respondent, would not usually be required to attend this), or they can deal with it on paper. It sounds like they dealt with it on paper in your case.

In any event though, he would have filed an appellant's notice which should have been served on you. That should have the grounds on which he wants to appeal set out. You could ask the court for it.
