changing maternity leave request

I'm due to go off on Mat leave from work as an NHS nurse at 36 weeks, with 4 weeks annual leave beforehand. This would mean I leave in 2 weeks from now.

I had 4 weeks off with SPD recently but have been back on reduced hours/duties for 2 weeks now and find I can manage quite well with this arrangement.

I'd like to stay on as long as possible, in order to have more time at the other end with the baby..

Any advice on what to say, or how I go about requesting this? And is it possible?

In my trust to work beyond 36 weeks you need to be signed off as fit by GP/ midwife which maybe difficult as you are on reduced hours / duties at present. You have to start mat leave from the week your baby is due so finishing with 4 weeks AL this will take you to 40 weeks anyway. Is this your first? Enjoy the rest! I left at 36 weeks with DS1 by 38 weeks SPD / HG had me all but bed bound. If I were you I would take a little time for yourself.

2x 4 hour shifts shuffling papers and doing the odd IV/admission is actually easier than being at home with a 2yo and home ed 10yo!

If it no. 3 stay at work as long as you can, it's probably more restful !
