How to respond to parking fine letter

Just opened an £85 parking fine from 'Highview Parking'. It is addressed to DH but I was driving that day.

It is a car park where you pay by phone. I've checked the electronic record on my phone and I did pay on the day they say I didn't but unfortunately I have accidentally selected our other vehicle from the drop down menu.

I've taken a screen shot and a screen shot showing payments for both cars to demonstrate I do switch vehicle.

I really need help wording an appeal. Given the reputation of these companies what are my chances they will accept this is an honest mistake?

Technically you didn't pay for this car to be parked that day - you paid to park a car with a different regustration number.

It might have been a mistake on your part but I can't see them cancelling the parking fine.

Don't they have to demonstrate a financial loss? Which they can't as you did indeed pay to park one vehicle, which is what you did?

I do accept that international but I think it is worth explaining my point of view. I have parked there 4 days per week for years and have always selected the correct vehicle. I guess that may take the view that this is irrelevant though.

I looked at some templates on the internet but they are all so aggressive and trying to prove the parking company is in the wrong. As international says they aren't in the wrong but I think discretion would be reasonable in the circumstances.

I've written a very polite letter saying that I accept I've made a mistake and attaching evidence that I clearly intended to pay and they have had £5 from me for that day.

It's ANPR so I've suggested that it would be possible for those records to confirm my other vehicle wasn't parked there that day.

I googled the company and there is an article in the local paper about them cancelling charges for people using the shop opposite who typed in the wrong reg number on the ticket machine.

Worth asking I guess.

No they don't. In the case of ParkingEye v Beavis last year the Supreme Court upheld ParkingEye's right to charge a driver £85 for overstaying in a free car park.
