Defacing valueable item

Not sure if this is the correct topic. However the crux of the matter is DH attended a work charity do and bid over the odds (stupidly but it was a mix of bravado and alcohol) and won an item. It'll be suffice to say it's signed world cup top from last year. Anyway the item has now been devalued as other party goer signed the shirt whilst DH wasn't looking. Now he has been left with an item which has been depreciated in a moment of madness. The culprit has offered to have it professionally cleaned and I'd think that would be hard to do without devaluing the authenticity of the shirt as it's meant to be signed but just not by this person! To make matters worse the culprit is a valued customer for Dh's company and as such can't be upset as they might lose his business!

That's vandalism.

If the company don't want to upset the customer, they should reimburse your dh instead.

Thanks I think DH boss was mortified and texted him today but he only offered the professional clean as compensation and says you won't be out of pocket. However that is based on the value of the item which it could be sold for. As I said DH stupidly bid over the odds.

I would try spot-cleaning

Could he offer to buy it from your husband for what he paid for it?

Hi thanks problem is Dh boss doesn't want to rock the boat and as upset as we are about the item, Dh now feels powerless to approach the culprit as his boss has begged him not too. So a belligerent act goes unpunished and DH boss has now taken item for cleaning at his expense and says it if doesn't come out, he will compensate DH.
