Wills - distributions after probate

My brothers and I are among the beneficiaries of a will of a family friend who died last year. One of my brothers is one of the main beneficiaries, myself and other brother only a minor beneficiary.

I can see that probate was granted in dec14 and am aware that a couple of other beneficiaries have received a distribution (though theirs were for specific sums, assets rather than a % of estate)

It is usual for beneficiaries to be contacted at different times or distributions to be staged as we have not heard from the solicitor dealing with the will though are aware he has our contact details.

Why not contact the solicitor and ask?

Not a solicitor but DH has been executor on a few family Wills. Bequests that can be met from the liquid financial assets of the estates (i.e from bank account proceeds) are usually settled fairly quickly. Larger sums or percentages of 'the residue' (what is left after specific bequests are met) usually have to wait until the main assets (such as a house) are sold and final distributions can be made. This is usually after any tax due on the estate has been paid. It would be ok for you to make a polite enquiry of the solicitor as to timescales, but the length of time you describe is not that unusual, especially if a property sale is involved. HTH

Thanks to all - we have made some enquiries of the solicitor and probate company - they have made some specific requests and realised some of the main assets (including property) but there are some overseas shares - it has been more than 12 months.
