Power of Attorney

Hi,
My Father has Dementia and we have POA with my Mother. This was set up about 7 years ago but since then I now have 2 children with my partner.
If he were to leave me ( I'm not on the mortgage and am I SAHM), would this POA effect any benefit claims I could make? Housing etc?
