notice period at work.

Hi. Im handing my notice in offically tomorrow. Ive been off for a month poorly and decided that the job wasnt for me. Ive got to give a weeks notice but since ive been off my works systems have been put in holding so far ive been three days without systems. Can work turn round and say i carnt work my notice period as i dont have systems or not. Thanks

You aren't being very clear. Do you mean that if you went into work you couldn't actually achieve anything? If you turn up and are available and are not on a zero hours contract then you will probably be paid. If you have any annual leave owing they can make you take that for your notice if there is no work you can usefully do for them. If you are on a zero hours contract they are under no obligation to give you any hours during your notice period.

Are you still off sick ? You can hand notice in at any point.

Im contracted for 40 hours and ive been locked out if my computer at work so carnt actually do any work.

Back at work as of last Wednesday.

Are they aware? Could it be a deliberate change if they suspect you may resign. Are there other tasks you can get on with ? They may not expect you to actively work notice at this stage.

I told them friday but havent had the computer acesses since i returned on Wednesday.

Give the notice in and ask what they need you to finish. If computer based they need to set it up. It could be as simple as your password having expired while you were off. What did you do between Wed and Fri ?

If you're the kind of person who would wait from Wednesday to Friday before mentioning to management that you didn't have the computer access to do the tasks you are being paid for, I should think they will probably be relieved. But they can set you to tidying the stationery cupboard for 40 hours while you work your notice if they want to.

How can you not have had access for 2 days- what were you doing for those 2 days?

I told them wed morning and they had me call listening. My systems are working now.
