Setting up a Company

We are moving home from abroad and have a business idea that would require us setting up a limited company. I need to hit the ground running and wondered if somebody could guide me as to where to start. I will speak to a lawyer when I'm back, I just need some information on costs and procedures involved so we can add it to our budget.

You can set up the company yourself through companies house website. Www.companieshouse.gov.uk . Incorporation fees are £15 if you do it yourself.

The first thing I did was go to talk to an accountant. He advised me just to set up the company myself, and explained what I needed to do in terms of tracking income & expenditure (simple spreadsheet in my case as I run a niche will writing practice from home).

At the end of the year he translated my spreadsheets into the company accounts and dealt with companies house queries etc. I didn't really have to switch my brain on, just let him crack on with it all. £900 well spent.
