How do I find out what happened in a historical case?

When I was a child, I reported a crime. I was interviewed twice, and the perpetrator was definitely arrested. My memory of this is that the case did not proceed any further as I was considered too vulnerable to go to court.

I'd really like to find out what actually happened, with a view to potentially re-opening the case.

Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, how I even begin?

I would start by contacting the police or courts where the case happened?

I rang 101 to ask a similar question and found them helpful so suggest starting with that. They couldn't find anything in my case but they were really kind and understanding about my wanting to know. I'd suggest doing similar.
