Sooo DH DD and I are away for the night booked and paid for by my dad. Just looking online about possibly selling the family car and realise the tax and mot have both expired last month! Can't get tax without MOT and can't get an MOT here as emergency credit card Is back at home Shock how on earth do we get out of this mess! Fil is a mechanic and does any repairs that are needed as money is pretty tight at the moment. Even if we could've emergency card here to pay tax and MOT if it fails we are stuck as can't afford to pay a mechanic here to repair :( stuck

Not sure why there's an extra 'stuck' at the end

You've obviously been driving around for a month with no tax or MOT so could you not risk driving home?

If not, can a family member pay some money into your bank account via faster payments so you could at least get the MOT done where you are?

They both ran out a week ago. Can't believe I've been so stupid n not realised

Is it points or a fine?

Chances are that you'll be done for the lack of tax anyway - it's an offence to keep a car if it is not taxed or declared SORN. You don't have to be caught driving, the DVLA picks it up using their database. Expect a fixed penalty notice, no points. Technically there is no grace period although there may be some unofficial leeway for cars that are taxed quickly after the month ends.

Lack of MOT does not attract points and you'd have to be caught using the car to be fined. It would probably void your insurance though, which is a minimum of 6 points if prosecuted, plus a fine.
