Trademarking

I'm about to embark on the process of trademarking a name and logo for work.

Has anyone done this, and can offer me words of wisdom/advice? What should I watch out for?

It looks like a similar cost for international or national trademark, so I'm leaning towards going global from the start, even if I don't use it internationally for a while yet.

You can obtain a trade mark over the whole EU - Community Trade Mark or apply internationally and nominate territories.

if you just intend to use it in the UK then it is a few hundred pounds. You can register yourself on the ipo website. However do all kinds of searches to check it is no one else's. People get in trouble all the time as they did not search both as to other registered trade marks and other use - do google searches too.

You need to decide if you want to register just the logo or the logo with the name or two separate marks one for logo and one for name.

Thanks for your reply. Yes that's one of my queries. The logo bit is just concentric circles, so I think they are perhaps too generic (especially if we do go global)

I'm fairly convinced now on the global/international side, because the price seems to ens up equal to the 3 territories UK + Europe + US.
