DIY will packs?

Hello! Cutting a long story short, my mum is terminally ill, I'm an adult, married etc, but my sister is still a child, her father has never been involved and our step father has no legal rights (there not legally married) so my sister will be coming to live with me once my mum has passed away.

However she doesn't has a will, isn't going to get one done, can't afford it, doesn't like facing the reality of a will and has no assets or anything to leave anyone other than my sister. So I'm wondering if I buy a DIY will kit off amazon and manage to get her to fill that in just to state she wants my sister to live with me, will this be sufficient? The website says it's legally binding but for £7 that seems too good to be true? But if it will work it will be ideal as I have no idea what will happen about custody arrangements if we don't get any sort of a will done.

I wouldn't to be honest. They are as basic as they come and if there's one tiny mistake then it could cause chaos. Macmillan have a section on their web site about wills (and they have a fund) so they maybe they can help if she has cancer? Age concern may be able to help too.

Does your half sister's dad have parental responsibility, do you know? Your mum can certainly appoint you as guardian but needs to understand that the presumption is normally that the dad would look after her if he has PR.

By appointing you as guardian under her will, she can't prevent his making an application for residence in court, but it doesn't sound as though that would be likely.

He's on the birth certificate but has only ever seen her when they went to register the birth, my sister is now 14 and doesn't even no he exists to be honest so the last thing we want is him being contacted.
