Job changed without consultation

I'm posting for a friend who is not on here.
Last week she was told her job title has changed and she is now to work in a different department, still a management level job.
Someone else started in her old job this week. She's not very happy about it, feeling devalued though her pay and conditions are unchanged.

Is this legal? Is there anything she could do about it? It seems pretty underhand to me

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Smile

Do you know why she was moved?

There isn't really much she can do about it now. She could have objected to the change and worked under protest until they negotiated the changes, but it sounds like she's already accepted the change.

She could also have resigned and tried to claim constructive dismissal, but with the same pay and conditions that probably wouldn't have been successful. Besides, she hasn't resigned and it's too late.

She can follow her grievance procedures, and contact her union if she's in one.

Not sure why.
She was told Friday and new person started the following Monday. They haven't even given her a new contract. She's on holiday this week so hasn't actually worked her new post yet.

I suggest you repost this in Employment Issues. There are some good HR experts there.

Thanks prh47 I didn't realise there was an employment issues board
