Funds not properly distributed after death

My FIL and his sister inherited some money from their aunt after her death. 50/50 split. There was no will, but FIL somehow was put in charge of distributing these funds from her bank account to himself and his sister.

He has not done this. He has kept half for himself and has put the rest in a bank account (his own) till he decides whether his sister is deemed worthy of having the money. It has been there for four years now.

FIL does not speak to his sister and technically doesn't have her contact details although he could easily find these (mutual relatives). He is not giving her the money because he is a spiteful old shit. She is very poor and I think she could do with the money. She doesn't know of its existence. I have no way of contacting her.

Is there a relevant body I can contact to tell them about this?

You could just tell her. It's not for you to enforce. That's her job.

She would need to pursue him through the courts. He is in breach of his role as Administrator of the estate. If you have no way of contacting her then I'm not sure there much you can do.

Your fil is acting illegally and could get into serious trouble. The money is his sisters and he is behaving appallingly.

Do you know her name? She may well be on the electoral register.

Thanks for the advice. The situation is complicated by the fact that I don't know her well enough to be able to trust that she wouldn't tell everyone that I was the person who let it slip.

I couldn't care less what FIL thinks of me, but it could have a devastating effect on my husband and children for many reasons.

It's further complicated by the fact she lives abroad so is not on the electoral roll.
