What can NR parents do without PR?

Fw ex (mentally abusive) is getting all passive aggressive cos i refused to give unsupervised contact against the advice of social services. He spewed out aload of garbage about legal this solicitors that then said btw i intend on getting a copy of his birth certificate to keep with him.

He isnt named on it so has no PR. What can he do with documents like that? can he mess up my child benefit or get a passport or anything? i dunno what hes up to or if hes just trying to make me paranoid or something. I think its shocking that anyone can just get hold of a bc without proof of connection to that person x

Anyone can request a birth certificate for anyone.

If he isn't on the BC the Passport office won't give him a passport for your DC, mess with child benefit. If you're worried he's going to apply for a passport either submit your own application for your DC or ring the passport office and ask them to put a block on your DC's name so anyone but yourself whom may apply for a passport, the passport office will ring you and check you've okay'd it. However like I said if he hasn't got PR then he can't get one anyway.

He can't get information from the DC's schools, reports, make medical decisions, keep your DC etc.

As Stripped says, he can do nothing with a copy of the bc, I could get one (if I knew the relevant details) and I'd have no more power than he has. If he wants PR he'll have to go to court (no Legal Aid available btw); do you think it's likely he'd go that far? It's a painful and expensive experience, even if he self-reps, and the judges take no shit, they've seen it all before.

Getting pr awarded in court isn't a difficult process. He applies, you get documents. You either agree he is the father and he gets pr or you deny it. If you deny it, they order a dna test, then he gets pr and you get told off by the judge for wasting everyone's time and money. Contact proceedings are totally different though, they are painful and expensive!

To your question, having a copy of the bc means nothing. If I wanted a copy of your bc I could have one if I knew your name at birth, dob and place of birth. The date doesn't even have to be that accurate. He won't be able to do anything with it at all. My only advice would be to get a passport if you don't already have one. Once one has been issued it can only be reissued to the person who made the original application. This means there is no way he could say the passport was lost and have one issued to him. Not that I have any reason to think he will but I like my bases covered Grin

Im not sure about the pr thing. He usually throws that against me in arguments. Ive told him if it concerns you that much apply for it n he just ranted on about costs and morals and fathers rights etc etc. he refused to even pay for a few weeks in a contact centre. Hes trying every trick in the book to get his wants on a plate without proving he can even meet DS's needs. Intimidation, love bombing, guilt trips, silent treatment and so on. I just need to know what he could try to do so my bases are covered. His personality is very controlling, unpredictable and misogynistic, i wouldnt put it past him to do a runner with ds x
