voluntary redundancy - rubbish offer

I've been offered voluntary redundancy package is statutory redundancy, one months notice and £1000 on top. Under two werks consultation so basically I'd be out in just over a month with under two months wages.

Is this reasonable? I think it's very poor. I'm not long back of mat leave as well so wonder if I have a stronger barging position?

I also was only told today and had to email a decision by first thing tmro. Ive replied to say I need more time to consider my options. Just after I was asked about voluntary redundancy an email went out about general redundancies.

Firstly does this sound legal? Secondly should I try to negotiate a better package and thirdly how does voluntary redundancy work alongside enforced redundancy?

Call acas. I think there has to be a proper process, though it depends on the size if the company, with 30 days notice. Check their website ASAP.

How long have you been working there?

MostlyCake · 09/07/2014 09:33

Just under 5 years

So the VR incentive is really only £1000. Seems a very short time to be given to consider it but dh only had 2 weeks and he's in a large co with over 15 years' service. Try ACAS. You could refuse it and see what happens. Presumably if not enough apply for VR there will be statutory redundancies and at worst you risk losing the £1000.

Would you be expected to work the month's notice?

VR is totally discretionary, so perfectly legal.

You need to take a view on how likely it is you will be made redundant if you don't take up the offer.

Decision is made - thanks all. I negotiated a slightly better deal and took that.
