Specific Issue Order (C100) – Next steps and serving papers?

I was in a brief unmarried relationship with DS’s father but he has always refused to recognise him as his son and as a result not had any contact with DS since he was 2 months old. DS is now 7 ½ and I changed his surname via deed poll in 2011.

I’m now applying for a specific issue order to have his passport amended to reflect this change but confused about the next steps and hopefully somebody can help with the following 2 questions?

I now have to serve the respondent (his father) with the court papers and plan on sending them via recorded delivery. However, should he choose to ignore the papers, will the process come to a complete halt or could it continue in his absence?

Equally, I am not 100% sure of his address. Having done a few checks he appears to be living at the same address as when we were together but knowing him he is likely to be living with somebody else and not registered as living there. Can I therefore, still serve the papers to the address?

Thank you in advance
