Making a complaint about my daughters CAMHS therapist.

How would I go about making a formal complaint about my daughters phychotherapist. She's not helping, not doing what she said she'd do, and not listening!

If I made a complaint about her, would they stop my daughter from seeing her? Would they appoint someone else instead?

Is she a member of BACP/UKCP or similar? The complaints procedure will be in there ethical framework/code of conduct.

They wouldn't necessarily stop her. In the first instance complaints are actually used as part of the therapy - repairing a rupture in the therapeutic relationship can be of significant value.

If she is doing something fundamentally wrong and causing harm to your daughter then your daughter can stop seeing her and your daughter will need to be supported through the process of breaking the therapeutic relationship with someone else.

It's a bit tricky to give accurate advice without knowing the full details which I wouldn't advise that you disclose, so going to the therapists accrediting body would be your best bet if the therapist is not responding to the complaint.

If it is an NHS CAMHS, they will have a complaints procedure. Ask at reception.

The Trust PALS is also a good starting point.

Good luck and I hope your daughter gets the help she needs.
