How does copyright work in terms of crafting?

I understand that a person can't draw a picture of a copyrighted character or reproduce them in some way like a cross stitch or a cake, but can you use official products to make an item to sell?

For example, let's say I buy official Hello Kitty fabric and make a skirt with it. I know for sure I can't sell it as "a Hello Kitty skirt" because it's not a skirt made by Hello Kitty. But can I sell the skirt as "a skirt made with official Hello Kitty fabric"? Or can you only use fabric with characters on like that for personal use?

I'm just curious because I've made things before for my dd with character prints and a few people have asked about buying one but it doesn't feel right because that's someone else's character that I've used.

You can't do it... However... There is a loophole. As long as you can prove the customer bought the fabric for you to make the item from, you can get away with it. Just break down your invoice as so much for fabric, so much for time etc in your accounts

It needs to look like the person said 'can you please make me a skirt from this hello kitty fabric which I will send you the money for'
