My daughter rented a flat on a 6 month lease. When she moved in the flat was grubby, hadnt been cleaned after last tenant. We spent the day cleaning, washing curtains etc. We took pics of the flat before cleaning. The oven was encrusted and the control knob was so worn you couldnt see what gas mark it was on. When daughter finished lease we cleaned the flat. Now landlord says that oven wasnt properly cleaned and he is going to deduct costs from the deposit. But the flat was left cleaner than it was when she took it on.
Does DD have any come back on this.
There were a few other issues like landlord letting people into view without informing her.

is the deposit in a deposit scheme? (assuming you are in england)
was there an inventory and was it signed by your dd?
check out inventory?

if it is in a scheme, your daughter can raise a dispute with them and they will decide if the landlord can hold some of the deposit back.

info on deposit protection scheme here

Yes its in a deposit scheme. There have been a few issues, so will definitely encourage her to appeal. Thank you for the link

she needs to raise a dispute with the deposit scheme immediately. With no inventory and with her photos, she will win the case.

for future reference, no-one is allowed into the property without her permission and reasonable advance notice, unless it is an emergency.

Meddie, did your daughter deal with the LL direct or through an Agency?
