deed of consent and charge

partner buying a house that I'm moving into. just received a deed of consent and charge from the solicitor to sign... it explains 'that I am agreeing that any rights I may have in the house should be postponed in the mortgage lenders favour'
it then says to seek independent legal advice.
is this a pretty standard thing to sign or is it potentially putting me in a vulnerable position in the future?

It is standard. It is intended to ensure that the lender can repossess the house if your partner doesn't keep up the payments. Without this you could cause them problems. It makes no difference to your position if you and your partner separate.
