When are you declared dead ??

...Does anyone know how they work out the time of death for the Death Certificate ????

Say you die at 11:35 but the doctor doesn't get there until after mid-night to certify the death - what time is written on the certificate - the time you actually died or the time that the Doctor certified that you were dead ...

Pedantic - but need to know - in a round-about sort of way - or maybe I will keep my mouth shut for my family and let them remember the date that they think that she died........

On another note - how important is it that the correct cause of death is recorded... the person at the Registry Office obviously had a list of "drop down options" and chose the wrong one.... should be we worried - or will this just make a small "blip" in death statistics... Obviously for future generations from a health perspective this may mean something - but in the big scheme of things - is this important ???

Funeral soon - so hopefully they will manage to bury the right person !!!

Re the first the time of death is the time a person actually died as I understand it. From the second I would be concerned as would that not mean the Death Certificate is incorrect as it contains wrong information? I would feel obliged to get that put right really.

Good question. I think you can just ask for an amendment to be made to the Certificate.
If it makes life generally easier to keep quiet then to be honest I probably would.

Time of death can be estimated from the temperature. Someone's body starts to cool after death, and their temperature can help with the time of death.

If the wrong cause of death is written on the notification of death completed by the doctor, and this is used to register the death, then nothing can be done.

I'm not sure - my df's death is registered at being due to alcoholism when he wasn't an alcoholic, just had the misfortune to be married to a complete bitch, and 'd'm told anyone and everyone at the hospital where he died that he was an alcoholic when he was admitted. I did ring the registar's office at Southport some time afterwards, and was told that they can add a note or soemthing to the file, but that the certificate itself can't be changed.

Totally off your question, but I am still really ashamed that I sat there and let her register the death knowing that the cause was false. She signed the register, too, knowing that it was false. Still there is comfort that she is now reaping her reward - and probably doesn't need central heating
