Difficult solicitor

My solicitor lies and doesn’t do the work that he said he would do; recently he said he would write to ExH but four weeks later and he still hasn’t. In the past, he has ignored me for months on end, given me the wrong advice and has taken up to two years to submit an application with the courts. Furthermore, I have informed him in writing every time the ExH has kept troubling me, sent him copies of text messages and have asked if he could ask ExH to not contact me directly for contact but solicitor has done nothing.

Has anyone else had any experience with difficult, unprofessional solicitors?

why are you paying money to an incompetent crook?

sack him, find another, report to the law society.

I would write a letter of complaint to the senior partner of the firm. Have you paid for all the work done? You might want to argue that you want a refund/reduction in fees.

You could also complain to the Law Society though that won't help your personal situation.

Get another solicitor pronto - get Law Society/someone you know to recommend one to you. The down side of this is that it can cause delay as any new solicitor will have to be advised of the whole background, and try to obtain your files from the previous agent - but worth it if you get someone who actually acts in your interests.

I have in the past changed solicitors but they were not very good either, my current solicitor is a partner of the firm and is within the local area. My case is complex and has been going on for 5 years almost sigh*

Write a letter of complaint, but don't expect anything to happen. The Law Society and SRA are extremely unlikely to do anything.

Best thing you can do is sack them and get another solicitor. Get recommendations and ask for references from satisfied customers. Remember - they work for you like anyone else you are paying!

If money is a problem consider a McKenzie Friend too.
