Wills

Hoping someone can help me with this matter.

I have been married to DH for almost 7 years, I have 4 DC from a previous marriage, they are all grown up with families of their own so none of them live with us. My DH has not been married before but has a DD whom he pays maintainance for but doesn't see. Our house is in joint names.

Before we married DH had made a will leaving his assets to his DD and 2 DNephews. We have not yet made any other wills, although I keep saying we must do it soon, DH seems reluctant.

My question is, is his previous will still valid? He says not as it was tied to his previous house.

I am concerned that if he dies before me I will be left homeless or if I die first then my DC will get nothing but it will all go to his relatives. I know we should have a joint will made but as I said previously he always puts it off when I suggest it.

TIA

When you marry, any Will that you may have made previously is automatically revoked.

Hi OP, I'm a willwriter and your husband is not alone! About 99% of the time, it's the wife who gets in touch and husband is almost on the sidelines, only getting involved when I call him to ask if he's happy with his will. It's a man thing Wink

As Stardust says, marriage automatically revokes a pre-existing will so you don't need to worry about that aspect.
