DVLA, licence, passport debacle

I need to renew my passport as it has been 10 years since my last one and also i am unable to find it anyway.

I have just received an email from dvla, informing me that they are unable to proceed because they cannot confirm my identity without a passport that has at least 5 years left on it.

WTF.?

So i have to fork out for a passport now in order to get a driving licence?

Unfortunately, the whole reason for this chain of events was a speeding fine. I have sent payment and a letter informing them of my circumstances with regards to the DVLA, but i'm unsure whether this will now result in non compliance with the police fine and end up as a court appearance.

Any help and advice most appreciated.

I think it just means you can't do it online. I can't renew my licence online as my passport is in my maiden name so doesn't match my driving licence.

Just to be clear, have you lost your driving licence too?

In the meantime, ring the contact number on the driving fine letter and see what they advise.

Yes, i've lost it too.

No contact number, only an email address.

So it just means i have to visit an office then?

Just googled local dvla offices, and it says- NOTE- all local offices have shut down!

Has the speeding fine been issued by the local council?

enlightenmequick · 07/01/2014 10:59

no, by the police. I have sent the reply slip with my card details via a guaranteed next day delivery, but haven,t included my licence. Just a letter to explain that i will forward my licence on, when i get it from dvla.

Sorry stupid question from me! I was thinking of a parking ticket that would be issued by the council, not a speeding fine.

Just spoke to dvla, and apparently i have gone through a fake website. Which they are aware off. They are acting as agency on my behalf and have been unable to process it due to no passport. They are now asking for my bank details to refund my money.

Any ideas of what to do?

Did you pay by debit or credit card? Who did you send the reply slip with your card details to? I would contact the card issuer straight away and ask what they advise.
