help speeding matter

Hi,

Was driving home ans saw a police speed radar and naturally slowed down as you do. I checked my speed and was under 40 but was in a 30.

I was pulled over, i asked if i was going to fast and was told i was doing 54! My jaw dropped a bit as i knew it wasnt possible. Bet they hear that one all the time.

I politely questioned how far away was i caught to which he responded 200yards, i said although i fully admitted going to fast hand on heart it wasnt that fast. He looked at the radar and said actually your right, its wrong ( taken from wrong distance therefore incorrect) and told me to be on my way but to mind my speed.

The question is, he made no suggestion of a penalty/summons and didnt take any details from me. Although must of had my reg number. Any ideas if i can be penalised etc considering the conversation?

Dont flame me, i dont normally top the speed limit and am apologetic. But, im going through a hard time as my husband of 15 years gave me a 4 word christmas present on christmas morning and im devestated. Thats a whole different story but hasnt clouded what happened.

Sounds like you had a lucky escape as he didn't register the right speed.

I don't think you'll be penalised because they haven't got the correct recording.

Sorry to hear about your home troubles. It will make you upset and absent minded. You don't need a fine on top of this.

on xmas day? what a shit :(

what are you going to do with that?

specialsubject · 29/12/2013 12:07

you don't 'naturally slow down' when you see a radar gun. You should be aware of what the right speed is and what speed you are doing.

given your understandable distraction, OP, please minimise your driving until you are in a better frame of mind. Unless you are running over your husband's foot of course...

good luck.
