Hit and run

I got a letter from the police yesterday saying my car was involved in a hit and run two weeks ago. The number plate, make and model match mine but it wasn't me or my car. We were both at home.
Can someone tell me what happens now as I am worried. :(
Thank you

Oh poor you. Were you on the phone at home, sending a text or on the net? You might already have proof it wasn't you.

Watching Strictly, lol. How can I check if I was on the net?

Did you post on MN?
Were you watching with anyone else?

I don't know the legal ins and outs of this (perhaps I shouldn't have posted!), but surely there's got to be more evidence against you than somebody just saying it was you?

And if someone saw 'you' at the time, why didn't the police come round then?

Are you sure it's an official letter and not someone's idea of a joke?

Definitely an official letter. Just checked my phone and have a string of texts to two different people at the time i was meant to be driving. Thanks for suggesting. May help.

Take your car in for inspection by them - their engineer will be able to tell if any recent work carried out to get rid of accident damage surely. The onus must be for them to prove you're guilt as opposed to you proving innocent I would have thought

Is it a letter asking you to provide the name and address of the driver at the time of the "incident"
