Finances and divorce

I would like some advice.

I have been divorced about 8 months now but have not reached financial settlement despite mediation. I earn well and am the main carer of the kids who live with me - he has regular overnight contact. My ex does not work but could (although he would argue he is too depressed to work) and currently rents and lives out of savings. His saving will run out and then he will have no money at all as far as I can see. My problem is that my ex will not come to an agreement - on my view he is prevaricating. He has made 2 offers each of which I accepted but then he withdraws saying either that he never made them or that did not mean x or y. I have given up on mediation / informal discussion for that reason and am now going through a solicitor. We have made a formal offer but I don't think that he will respond to it at all. He has said that he will not discuss money until we have an agreement on children but that is also an issue between us. I don't know whether to wait until he runs out of money and then just let him make an application or if it would be better if I go to court myself. I don't know the best option.

Any advice would be gratefully received
