Vehicle in for repair for three months

I broke down and took my vehicle to a dealer to be repaired...three months ago. It had a broken clutch and I wanted new tyres at the same time.

About seven weeks ago, they asked for 660 pounds to be paid, telling me they were going to deliver the vehicle the next day. I gave them my debit card details over the phone. They then took 1,200 pounds from my account.

Ten days ago when I rang them (again, it's a weekly event) they said it would be repaired on the following Monday. It hasn't been. I have repeated asked for some explanation as to why 1,200 pounds was taken from my account. But the person I need to speak to is never there and never returns my call.

I'm 1,200 pound worse off and they still have my vehicle.

What can I do?

seems like an awful lot. have you got an alternative quote to compare it to? send them a letter giving them 7 days to release it or go down there with a friend and demand it back, with the paid receipt specifying the work done then if you've been ripped off get the balance back through the small claims system.

I'd be threatening that I'd be visiting with someone from Trading Standards if they didn't pull their finger out. It may also be worth giving head office a ring.

Get trading standards involved.

My friend had this. Never pay up front :( The company had very poor review and details were online. When he turned up to take the car it was in pieces and the owner threatened him (baseball bat in the office and aggressive dog)

It dragged on and on. What they have done is illegal in taking the money. I'd go to CAB and ask for advice. I wonder if it's the same company.
