In Scotland incase that makes a difference. I have an appt on Monday to start process to write a will. I am not married but share a house with DP and our son. Mortgage is in my name alone. I have a life insurance policy that will pay off mortgage, company pension with death in service benefit...few other bits n bobs. Issue is, I don't know where to start with what should go where and to whom when the time comes.

Priority is DS...I want him to be well catered for financially, but if something happens to me while he is still young (4 just now) who will look after things til he's at an age where he can? Can I leave things to DP, DSs father with instructions that he cannot use it l for his own benefit!

Do I go down to savings acs, car, personal belongings, etc?'

to answer the last bit - no, you don't detail everything in the will unless there is a particular item you want to go to a particular person. You just talk about your assets, and keep records of where and what everything is in a place where it can be found.

easier said than done, I know!
