Ta. It looks like I will have to do a deed poll because I want it changed on my passport too as thats the ID asked for for everything.

Google free deed poll, fill out a form online, print out 10-15 copies, get 2 friends to sign them all then take/send the forms to passport office, gas company etc. Totally free, please don't pay a penny. Mine has been accepted by passport, driving license, tax credits, bills, banks (but halifax were difficult), crb people, university, credit card, umm, everyone really.

arse. whole new passport fee.

I waited until I needed a new passport anyway, and I needed to update my photo drivers license, so I would have had to pay that money anyway, if you see what I mean. But the thing itself is totally free.

I might ignore the passport as I never use the darn thing and just update the drivers licence just so I have one form of photo ID in the new name. Then to make a list of all who need informing. NI number, tax credits, my mother (eep)...

Interestingly, the tax credits just changed it over the phone whereas the water wanted a copy of the deed poll (which they returned by recorded post). Your NI number stays the same which is probably why tax credits were mellow about it actually.
