Sexual Harassment at work

I don't want to go into too much detail but today one of my employees confided in me that she has been harassed by another employees sexually for some time and recently it has increased to sexual assault, touching appropriately etc. Both employees work in the household so there are no written policies about sexual harassment.

I haven't let the other employee know anything about it yet. I want to make sure that the guilty party pays the price for it. How would I go about getting the evidence to make sure that when we go to police they will take it seriously and he doesn't get away with a talking to.

If we were to go to the police, what would they do? Can he go to prison for it... I want to kill him right now but I will settle for him going to prison

Firstly you need to approach this impartially -you only have one side of the story

I'm sad to say that I've had to deal with an out of work relationship gone bad and it resulted in a false accusation

Do you have a grievance or disciplinary policy at all?

Thanks 17leftfeet, It is a small household so there is a disciplinary policy which comes standard with any nanny contract. Nothing more than that.

I am finding it really hard to be impartial. The employee went in great detail about what she has been subjected to and some of the stuff is disgusting. Initially the employee felt sorry for the guy and put up with it but it has escalated recently.
