Misleading statement

I have just come across a website of an artist who works within the same media as myself. On this site she states that she 'trained with leading (type of media) artist, Shimmering' .........

I have never met this person, though I have had some contact with her via email re delivery dates etc, when I organised an exhibition for 47 artists, of which she was one. That is the full extent of our contact and was several years ago.

It is possible to see at a glance of her website that I have had absolutely NO influence in her work whatsoever, as our styles are at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
Therefore to state that she trained with me is a total untruth and one I'm definitely not happy with.

I feel I want to contact her and ask her to correct this incorrect statement . May I please ask anyone out there, how do I best word my letter/email.

Firstly ask her to detail the training as you have no recollection of it! If she doesn't reply, ask her to take it down. You may embarrass her into removing it of her own volition. You must be pretty impressive... Grin

Just wanted to say: "what a bloomin' cheek". (Although slightly flattering).

She's got some brass neck so I wouldn't worry about hurting her feelings.

My friend, let's call her Jojo, ran a class for a while for a group of ladies. One of whom insisted that Jojo do demos. This person then took all the demos home to "study". She then "finished" them. And my friend then discovered when putting together an exhibition for a gallery she worked with that her works were going to be shown alongside this other woman's whose work it turned out were Jojo's demos. The gallery unsurprisingly felt that the styles really complemented each other. Grin. Jojo told them straight off it wasn't happening.

It's not always easy to sort this kind of crap out because it would appear that one has to be careful who one upsets in the art world. However some people just take the absolute mick.

Hope you get this sorted.

Rescue the idea of asking her to detail the 'training' is a good one and I think I shall go with that first.

I did think of asking her if she had intended to say that she had exhibited with me, rather than train with me, but as there were 46 other artists in the exhibition I mentioned, then I don't think that's the case.
Let's hope it works rather than me have to bring out the big guns!!! Grin

bigbad The story re your friend just beggers belief at the absolute brass neck of some people. Good for your friend standing up for her self.

Yes, I like Rescue's idea about detailing the training as well. I wonder if she will respond. Please post. I want to know how it turns out, the minx.

Thanks bigbad . Yes, I'll email her tomorrow because tonight I may say more than I should after drinking two glasses of delicious wine and that would never do , would it! Wink

Will certainly post again, if she responds, or if I decide a different tactic if she doesn't!

bigbad, yes, I followed your advice and sent the following email to her -

Dear ***,

I recently came across your website and was surprised to find on your '***' page, the following statement:

trained at the and has trained with leading artist, , running a highly recognised and established ***business across the UK.

Could you please detail this 'training' to me as I have absolutely no recollection of it, and am interested as to when/where this took place.

I look forward to your reply.

Sorry everyone, it has been a manic weekend and I was falling asleep literally as I wrote that last post !

Her explanation was that she mixed me up with another artist who works in the same medium, and who has the same first name as myself (even though we live a few hundred miles apart, and work totally differently).

So, she says it happened because she sent my name to her Webmaster who then put it on site for her, and that she hadn't really paid much attention to the site, and because she accesses it on her phone she hadn't noticed the mistake!!!

I've since re checked her site and it has now been amended to the 'correct' name.

No harm done then Smile
