I didnt know where to put this but decided legal matters was probaby a reasonable choice - more reasonable than nicking someone elses address anyway!

Soooo i have lived in this house for over 3 years in a small town. A couple of times i have received a letter from the local careers office addressed to someone i dont know, who has never lived here. (we have been here 3 years, landlord lived here for 14 years prior to us, so very unlikely this person ever lived here.

Now today i have a letter addressed to him from HMRC. Apart from the obvious (send it back undelivered) what do i do?

He obviously local because in the past he has been to the careers office which is a 15 minute walk from here.

Ive googled his name and can only find one person living locally with the same name (different middle initial)

I dont know what to do? - i want this sorted because goodness lnows in what other ways he might be using my address..... Although i have only had these three items of post.

All help appreciated :)

Call HMRC and ask for advice?

Ask your Landlord if he knows the person?

ThreadWatcher · 22/07/2013 11:24

Thanks both

Ive just phoned HMRC (which weirdly it didnt occur to me to do) and they said i failed the security questions! Because i couldnt remeber amobile number they have for me which i havent used for 3 years!

So i have to write a letter to confirm i am me which is rather ironic given the reason i called them!

Ill talk to my landlord but i doubt he knows the person either.
