My son was out with his mates and one of them went into our local public hall to see his mum. My son stayed outside with his other mate. They were kicking a football around. My son kicked the ball up high and as it came down it hit a top window and it broke. I have now been served a bill for £118.80 to pay for replacement. Am I liable for this. I would think they would be able to claim off there insurance. We don't have that sort of money. My Son is 15.What do you suggest.

your son broke a window ! pay the bill it was his fault! you are liable for this bill, whilst i am sure they have insureance they will also have an excess on it. They can take you to small claims court for the money plus costs. If you dont have the money ask to pay in installments.

Their insurance will have an excess greater than the cost billed to you. Putting aside the legality, do you think it is morally right that neither you or your son pay? Does he get pocket money?

He kicked the ball, he should pay (or you should pay and he works to pay you back).

He broke it! You pay.

Check with your own buildings insurance. You should have legal liability which usually doesn't have an excess.
My buildings insurance paid out when DD accidentally scratched a car with her bike.

I don't understand why people think they aren't liable for something like this just because the other party is insured.

Having been a building owner where this happened - no they can't claim on their buildings insurance. Yes you are liable though as he is 15 I would pay the bill and then make him pay in installments till bill is cleared so he thinks twice next time.
